We arrive at approximately 10 a.m. to explore the National Cathedral with its dramatic art and architecture during a guided tour tailored for first-time visitors. We will have a 30-minute guided tour of the nave on the main level and those interested can view the crypt on the lower level after the tour. We depart for Hillwood Mansion for an approximate 11:30 a.m. arrival followed by a guided tour of the mansion that was bought by Marjorie Merriweather Post in 1955. She decided her home would be a museum to inspire and educate the public. Her northwest Washington, D.C., estate has endowed the country with the most comprehensive collection of Russian imperial art outside of Russia; a distinguished 18th-Century French decorative art collection; and 25 acres of serene landscaped gardens and natural woodlands for all to enjoy.
We’ll have an elegant three-course luncheon here as well. Lastly, we’ll visit the U.S. Botanic Garden that are steeped in history, rich with tradition. The garden is a living plant museum that informs visitors about the importance and ,often irreplaceable, value of plants to the wellbeing of humans and earth’s fragile ecosystems. We depart for home around 5 p.m. with a rest and meal stop on your own.
